| The Chatrapathi International Airport ranks as the busiest airport in the country and handled an astounding 29.1 million passengers in the year 2010-11. The airport consists of three domestic terminals at Santa Cruz and two international terminals at Sahara. The Mumbai International Airport Pvt. Ltd (MIAL) is currently working on renovation plan to create an integrated Terminal (T2) capable of handling 42 million passengers every year. Once completed, the T2 Terminal would render Mumbai International airport South Asia’s second busiest airport.
Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport is located 16 km north of Mumbai. The airport was initially designed as two airports, Santa Cruz Airport and Sahara International Airport; however, they are now connected by a 15 minute shuttle bus. Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport is managed by GVK (74%) and Airport Authority of India (26%). |
